Are You Ready?

Are you ready for what is going to happen today or tomorrow? Are you prepared to take advantage of the opportunity that is about to be presented to you? We all have some idea of what we would like to happen in the future, even if it was just daydreaming. Well guess what? Tomorrow is the future! Tomorrow (or the next day) could be your day. Will you be ready for it?

Maybe you are daydreaming about the perfect job or a promotion. If the opportunity came along, would you be ready to take full advantage of it? Suppose you desire a promotion in your company to a new position that you have most, but not all the requirements. What are you doing to build the remaining requirements? Do you need to go to night school? Maybe you need to moonlight in order to get the required experience.

One essential to success is that your desire be an all-obsessing one, your thoughts and aims be coordinated, and your energy be concentrated and applied without letup.

-Claude M. Bristol

These opportunities will eventually come, but if you haven’t done your part to be prepared, there is very little chance your dreams will come true. Doing your part requires that you pursue every opportunity to improve your skills and your knowledge. Maybe you don’t see working a second job, or going to night school to gain skills as an opportunity. It may not be, but you never know for sure. Suppose the promotion opportunity came up and the final two candidates were you and someone who had demonstrated a commitment to improving their skills. Who do you think is going to get the promotion?

The problem many of us have is that we see the ‘opportunity’ as the promotion itself. What we fail to see is the ‘opportunity’ to prepare for that promotion, i.e. going to school or working a second job. Thomas Edison once said 'opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work'. Opportunity can come in many forms. It’s your job to be vigilant and take advantage of them when they appear.

- Joe freeman

Unless you have prepared yourself to profit by your chance, the opportunity will only make you ridiculous. A great occasion is valuable to you in proportion as you have educated yourself to make use of it.
